The short version
Lumi is a skincare companion, not a doctor. Its reports and replies are AI-generated guidance and can be wrong. See a dermatologist for anything medical.
Lumi is intended for people aged 18 and over.
Lumi is free. Anything you buy from a shop you reach through Lumi is between you and that shop.
Use Lumi fairly: scan only your own face, and do not misuse the app or its AI.
You can stop using Lumi and delete your account at any time. These terms are governed by Indian law.
This summary is here to help you read what follows. The numbered sections below are the full text.
Section 1
Agreeing to these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Nowl Labs [CONFIRM: owner: registered legal-entity suffix (for example Private Limited), from the MCA certificate], which makes Lumi. By creating an account or using the app or website, you accept them. If you do not agree, please do not use Lumi.
Always ask a qualified dermatologist or doctor about a skin condition, a rash, a changing mole, pain, bleeding or anything that worries you. Do not delay or ignore professional advice because of something Lumi said.
Patch-test any new product before using it fully, and stop if it irritates your skin.
Tell Lumi about allergies and sensitivities, but check every ingredient list yourself. Lumi can miss things.
If you think you are having a medical emergency, call your local emergency number.
Section 3
Who can use Lumi
Lumi is intended for people aged 18 and over. By using Lumi you confirm that you are at least 18 years old. Indian data protection law treats anyone under 18 as a child, and Lumi is not designed for children.
Face scanning is only for people aged 18 and over. If a profile says its owner is under 18, face scanning is switched off and Lumi does not send analytics about that profile.
The information you give us, including your age, must be true. If we learn that we hold personal data of someone under 18, we delete it, and close the account if there is one.
Section 4
Your account
You can look around Lumi's home screen as a guest. To scan, chat or save anything you need an account, which you can create with Google, a phone number or an email address.
Keep your sign-in details private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
One person per account. Do not sign in as someone else.
Section 5
What Lumi does
Lumi offers a face scan and skin report, an ingredient label scanner, a personal routine with reminders and a streak, a knowledge library, product suggestions from Indian shops, and Lumi, an AI you can chat or talk with.
A scan reads photos taken in everyday light on a phone camera. Lighting, angle, make-up and the camera all change the result, so two scans a day apart can differ. Treat scores as a rough guide to trends, not a measurement.
We keep improving Lumi, so features may change, move or be withdrawn. We try to give notice of changes that matter to you.
Section 6
AI features and Lumi chat
Lumi's reports, suggestions and chat replies are generated by AI models, some run by other companies (see the Privacy Policy section 7). AI output can be inaccurate, out of date, incomplete or occasionally inappropriate, even when it sounds confident.
Check anything important before you act on it.
Do not use Lumi to produce harmful, hateful, sexual or illegal content, or to get around its safety limits.
If a reply is wrong, offensive or unsafe, tell us: every Lumi reply in the chat, including the record of a voice call, has a rating and a “Report this reply” option. You can also use Profile › Send feedback, or email [email protected]. We read every report and use them to fix problems.
Section 7
Using Lumi fairly
When you use Lumi, you agree not to:
scan anyone's face but your own, or upload photos of other people;
upload anything you do not have the right to use, or anything unlawful, abusive or explicit;
copy, scrape, reverse-engineer, resell or build a competing service from Lumi or its content;
interfere with, overload, probe or get around the security of Lumi or its servers;
use bots or automation against the app, or access it other than through our apps and website;
use Lumi for anything illegal, or in a way that harms other people.
Section 8
Your content and feedback
Your photos, answers and messages remain yours. You give us permission to use them only to run Lumi for you, as the Privacy Policy describes. We do not claim ownership of them, and we do not use your face photos to train AI models.
If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them to improve Lumi without owing you anything, and without using your name unless you agree.
Section 9
Our app and your licence
Lumi, including its design, text, illustrations, the moth mascot, its knowledge articles and its software, belongs to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for your own non-commercial use, under these terms. Nothing else is transferred to you.
App stores (Google Play and the Apple App Store) have their own terms, which also apply to how you download and update Lumi.
Section 10
Products, shops and other websites
Lumi suggests products and links to shops and marketplaces. Those pages open in Lumi's in-app browser, but they belong to the shop. Prices, stock, delivery, returns and the product itself are the shop's responsibility, under its own terms and privacy policy. Prices shown in Lumi are as last seen and can be out of date.
Suggestions are based on your profile and each product's ingredients. Nobody pays to be suggested. Lumi does not currently earn a commission on product links. If that changes, we will say so here and next to the links before it applies.
Section 11
Payments
Lumi is free and has nothing to buy today. If we introduce paid plans, their price and terms will be shown before you pay, payment will go through Google Play or the App Store, and our Refunds & Cancellations policy will apply.
Section 12
What we can and cannot promise
We work hard to make Lumi accurate, safe and available, but we provide it “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we do not promise that it will always be available or error-free, that its analysis or suggestions are right for you, or that any product or routine will give a particular result. You use its guidance at your own discretion.
Section 13
Limits on our liability
To the extent Indian law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss caused by a product you bought from a shop, a reaction to a product, your reliance on AI output instead of professional advice, or events outside our reasonable control.
Where we are liable, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. [CONFIRM: owner and lawyer: liability cap amount, given Lumi is free]
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or takes away your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
Section 14
Your responsibility to us
If you break these terms or the law while using Lumi, for example by uploading someone else's photo without permission, and that leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover the reasonable costs we incur because of it.
Section 15
Ending your use of Lumi
You can stop using Lumi at any time, and delete your account from Profile (in the Lumi app) or on our account deletion page.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts others at risk, or where the law requires us to. Unless it would be unlawful or unsafe, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond. If we ever shut Lumi down, we will give reasonable notice so you can save what you need.
Section 16
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Lumi changes or the law does. We will change the date at the top and, for changes that matter, tell you in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Lumi afterwards, the new terms apply. If you do not agree, you can delete your account.
Section 17
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Please contact us first so we can try to resolve any problem. If we cannot, disputes will be heard by the courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka, without affecting your right to approach a consumer commission or any other forum Indian law gives you.
Section 18
Grievances and contact
For questions or complaints about Lumi, including about content or AI replies, write to our Grievance Officer:
Address: [[STREET_AND_PIN — NOT YET SET]], Bengaluru, Karnataka, India
We acknowledge complaints within 48 hours and aim to resolve them within 30 days. For your personal data, the Privacy Policy explains your rights.
Section 19
General
These terms, with the Privacy Policy and the Refunds & Cancellations policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about Lumi.
If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours to a company that takes over Lumi, and your rights will not be reduced as a result.
If these terms are translated, the English version applies if the two differ.
Questions, requests or complaints
Write to us and a person will reply. For a complaint, put “Grievance” in the subject line.
